Five at the Fives

Prior to the start of the pandemic in 2020 we had family vacation booked to the Fives Beach Hotel in the Riviera Maya but like most of you we had to cancel our trip. At that time we thought maybe we would get to go in a month and here we are almost two years later! The silver lining is that we got to experience the new Fives Ocean Front in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. The Fives property really stays true to their philosophy of capturing the Five senses. We had 9 days of complete relaxation, amazing food, beautiful sleeps and of course a tonne of laughs!

One of the senses of course is hearing and I don’t know about you, but the sound of the ocean is complete magic for me. The entire stay I slept with my balcony doors open so I could fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the waves crashing. I was also up at 7 every day so I could be one of the first to the beach. Its my perfect place to have my morning coffee and meditate. Even the coffee was amazing. It’s a brand called Romarley, by the one and only Rohan Marley, son of Bob Marley. The fives features this coffee both at their oceanfront property as well as their city property in Playa del Carmen. What I loved most about this vacation is that I didn’t feel like we needed to be anywhere other than the resort. Its boutique style combined with luxurious everything, made soaking up the simplicity of a beach vacation very easy. If you wanted to do group or organized trips outside of the resort you could, but this trip for us was entirely about being on the beach and enjoying the amenities at the hotel. We were concerned that the kids would be bored but they got right into the beach life. By the end of our stay they had their favourite food and drinks picked out and like mom and dad had a very easy time sitting on those cozy beach beds enjoying the service and the scenery.

Mexico is not Mexico without amazing tacos and margarita’s, and did we ever do a good job consuming as many as we possibly could. Honesty I think secretly we would all have been happy ordering tacos and guacamole for breakfast, lunch and dinner but the rest of the food was so good we just had to try it all. I love breakfast and was so excited to get amazing coffee – yes i love good coffee that much that I have to say it twice , paired with fresh fruit, and an everything omelette (and even served with your own little individual ketchups). It was so good I had that everyday. But the kids had chicken and waffles, avocado toast and monte cristo’s galore.

Of course for me the best part about a beach vacation is that I also get to enjoy my daily walks. I mean I love walking anywhere, but to get to do it on the beach by the ocean really is a treat. Usually I listen to a podcast or an audible while I walk but when I am by the ocean I just want to take it all in; the smell of salt water, the warm breeze on my face, the hot sand on my feet and the wind in my hair. I truly feel my best by the ocean. The ocean/beach environment makes me feel healthy and makes me want to make healthy choices. I want to eat fruit, drink water, soak up vitamin D, get in the ocean and let the sea water work its magic on my skin, it makes me feel energized and alive. I am definitely a beach baby!

Another highlight for me this trip was that I got to teach a JOGA session on the rooftop at sunrise. Its always amazing to me to know that there are people who love to get up up that early and workout! Needless to say after seeing the views, I understood why. Simply breath taking and an amazing way to start the day.

Needless to say the vacation was a huge success, so much so that I am thinking of hosting a retreat here! It has everything that I value and that I think my clients value. From the design, to the decor, to the view, the food, the service and staff; I would definitely put The Fives Oceanfront on your list of places to vacation!
